  3. For anyone still not convinced, Senator Stabenow, who is working on the health care reform bill, sent out this official statement:

    Dear [removed],

    Thank you . . .

. . . for contacting me about protecting access to comprehensive reproductive health services for women in the health care reform bill. I share your views on this issue.

You can count on me to fight to protect women’s reproductive health services. As a member of the Finance Committee, which is drafting the health reform bill, I am working to ensure that this bill does not restrict access to abortion services. As health reform continues through the legislative process, I will continue to push for comprehensive health services for all women.

Reproductive health care, including abortion services, should be treated like all other health care services and be a matter between a woman and her doctor. Abortion is a very individual and difficult decision for women, often arising in complex and personal circumstances. As Congress works to provide quality, affordable health care to every American, I will keep your views in mind and fight to protect the health of women across the country.

Thank you again for contacting me. Please continue to keep me informed about issues of concern to you and your family.

  5. Will the elective abortions covered in the public plan adhere to the time restrictions set in Roe v. Wade? Or does elective abortions mean that a person can elect to have an abortion at any point in their pregnancy and have coverage?
